Handout photo.MANILA — Seven coaches from the basketball and volleyball tournaments of the UAAP and the NCAA are set to be hailed for their leadership and performances in the previous seasons of the respective leagues.


The Collegiate Press Corps (CPC) is set to give recognition to Hadyee Ong, Dante Alinsunurin, Norman Miguel, Sammy Acaylar, Jerry Yee, Topex Robinson, and Yuri Escueta for leading their respective squads to championship glory last season when it holds its annual Awards Night at Discovery Suites Manila on June 17.


Ong of the University of Santo Tomas is the UAAP Season 86 women’s basketball Coach of the Year, after she steered the Growling Tigresses to their first championship title in 16 years, while also ending the seven-peat reign of the league powerhouse National University (NU) Lady Bulldogs.



Also set to be given his flowers is De La Salle University’s Robinson for his exemplary showing in his first year as the Green Archers’ head coach which led to their first title in seven years.



Still from the UAAP side, NU’s Miguel and Alinsunurin are the women’s and men’s volleyball COTYs, respectively, as the former was at the helm of the Lady Bulldogs’ redemption championship season, while the latter is set to be celebrated for leading the Bulldogs to their fourth-straight title.

Meanwhile, Escueta’s performance with San Beda University in NCAA Season 99 is also set to be given its spotlight for he will be named as the NCAA men’s basketball coach of the year after he towed the Red Lions to their first title since 2018.


On the volleyball side, Acaylar and his mentorship of the University of Perpetual Help System DALTA will also be recognized for he led the Altas not only to an unbeaten 11-0 record in the men’s volleyball tournament of the grand-old league but also completing a four-peat.



Lastly, Jerry Yee will be the NCAA women’s volleyball COTY for authoring De La Salle-College of St. Benilde’s three-peat which was built on a historic 40-game win streak in their division.
