MANILA (UPDATED) — Expelled lawmaker Arnolfo Teves Jr. was arrested Tuesday night in his residence in Dili, Timor-Leste, his son Axl Teves said in a Facebook video Wednesday.

He also pointed out that Teves had already won the extradition case before the Timor-Leste court.

"The Timorese Court ruled in favor of my father, supposed to be he should be in Timor living peacefully and safety but we were shocked that just last night he was illegally kidnapped and illegally detained," added Axl Teves.

Ferdinand Topacio, one of Teves' lawyers, later confirmed the arrest in a statement, saying his client was with his Timor-Leste counsel, Joao Serra, when he was taken by the immigration police.

DOJ SAYS COMMITTED TO BRING ARNOLFO TO JUSTICE
Meanwhile, the Department of Justice said that there was no communication from the Timor-Leste government on the reported arrest of Arnolfo. The DOJ has initiated extradition proceedings in Timor-Leste for Arnolfo to face his multiple murder cases in the Philippines. “We emphasize that the Philippine government has not been furnished with any legal or official document on the matter,” the DOJ said in a statement.
