ROME — Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle celebrated Mass at San Felice da Cantalice a Centocelle, his titular church in Rome, together with members of the Filipino community days before the Conclave, which is set on May 7.

The celebration brought together hundreds of Filipino faithful, who joined Cardinal Tagle in prayer and thanksgiving at the basilica assigned to him when he was created cardinal in 2012. The Mass highlighted the strong bond between the former Manila archbishop and the Filipino diaspora in Italy.

San Felice da Cantalice a Centocelle, located in the Centocelle district of Rome, serves as Cardinal Tagle’s titular church—a tradition that signifies a cardinal’s role as a member of the clergy of Rome. Despite his current role as Cardinal-Bishop, the highest rank within the College of Cardinals, Cardinal Tagle continues to maintain a pastoral relationship with the church and its community.

The May 1 celebration also served as a reminder of the enduring faith and unity of overseas Filipinos, with Cardinal Tagle offering words of encouragement and hope during his homily.

In his homily, Cardinal Tagle invited everyone to pray not only for themselves but also for the Church and for Pope Francis.

“Anche giusto ricordare Papa Francesco con gratitudine e invocare il vostro Signore misericordioso affinché gli conceda la gioia eterna dalla sua presenza,” said Cardinal Tagle, which means, “It is also right to remember Pope Francis with gratitude and to invoke our merciful Lord to grant him eternal joy in His presence.”

He added, "Per favore, pregate per i cardinali, pregate per il conclave che comincia il 7," urging the faithful, “Please pray for the cardinals, pray for the conclave that begins on the 7th.”
