MANILA — Davao City mayoral candidate Karlo Nograles has cast his vote at the Palma Gil Elementary School in Davao City on Monday. 

Nograles is challenging former president Rodrigo Duterte, who is seeking to return as Davao City mayor. 

Duterte, whose family has been in power in Davao for three decades, remained under the custody of the International Criminal Court in the Netherlands.

"It will be a first time na mangyari sa Davao. Mangyaring question marks din. 'What will happen?' I think that's what everybody is also considering or thinking about the very least na if it happens, what's next?" Nograles said last week, noting that it will be a "unique situation" if the ex-president wins.

Nograles held a miting de avance in Buhangin, Davao City, on Saturday evening, May 10, alongside fellow candidates, including former vice mayor and vice mayoral candidate Bernie Al-ag, as well as PBA party-list representative and candidate for the city's first district, Migs Nograles.

The former chairperson of the Civil Service Commission said they have visited all 182 barangays in the city to listen to residents' concerns and will strive to address them if he wins.

"We ran a campaign for the past months, telling everybody in Davao City na ito yung gusto naming mangyari. Ito yung mga plano natin, ito yung mga kailangan nating gawin. Ito yung based sa mga consultation natin, pag-iikot natin sa ground. Ito yung hinihingi ng tao. Kumbaga, vinoice out lang din natin kung ano ang gusto ng tao maramdaman at serbisyong makuha mula sa local government," he said in a chance interview.
