MANILA — Televangelist Apollo Quiboloy has returned to the Pasig City Jail Male Dormitory after receiving treatment for pneumonia, the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology said Thursday.

In a statement, BJMP J/Supt. Jayrex Bustinera said Quiboloy was transferred back to the Pasig jail on Wednesday night after receiving medical clearance following weeks of hospitalization due to the respiratory ailment.

Bustinera noted that Quiboloy was first brought to Rizal Medical Center on January 18 "after complaining difficulty of breathing." The hospital diagnosed him with pneumonia and transferred him to The Medical City in Ortigas for further treatment.

On January 23, Pasig City Regional Trial Court Branch 159 ordered his transfer from The Medical City to Pasig City General Hospital, where he was diagnosed with moderate-risk, community-acquired pneumonia and stage 2 hypertension, the jail official said.

While recuperating at Pasig City General Hospital, the Pasig court allowed Quiboloy — who is running for senator in the 2025 midterm elections — to make a pre-recorded video of him for his Senate bid.

Specifically, the court granted Quiboloy permission to produce video messages for the gathering and prayer service of Kingdom of Jesus Christ members on Feb. 9, his proclamation rally on Feb. 11, and the PDP-Laban grand proclamation rally for senatorial candidates on Feb. 13.

On Tuesday's official campaign kickoff, Quiboloy issued a video message to his supporters saying running for senator is "God's mission" for him.

In his over 20-minute video shown during the tail-end of his proclamation rally at the Ynares Gym in Pasig City, Quiboloy said he wanted to correct the wrongs in the current administration — including alleged corruption.

"Itong lahat ay may basbas at may kalooban ng Dakilang Ama kaya ako ay nagpapasalamat… ang panahon natin ngayon, glorification era, may panibagong misyon… hindi man natin nauunawaan sa simula ngunit ang direksyon ay papunta doon na kahit ako sa simula ay hindi ko nga alam," said Quiboloy.

The religious leader faces child and sexual abuse cases as well as human trafficking charges in Philippine and US courts. He has repeatedly denied the accusations.

Meanwhile, the Pasig court rejected Quiboloy camp's request for a live media interview, saying "it cannot supervise his conduct" in this scenario.

"In doing so, the Court maintains its authority to regulate the manner and presentation of accused Quiboloy’s plans and platform to the public, ensuring that judicial impartiality and integrity are upheld while also respecting his rights to participate in the electoral process," the court said.
