Former U.S. president Donald Trump is riding high from recent victories, including his caucus win in Nevada as he gets closer to clinching the Republican presidential nomination.

Legal experts said Trump may soon get another good news from the U.S. Supreme Court.

The high court held oral arguments last week on keeping the erstwhile leader from the 2024 ballot due to his involvement in the January 6th attack on the U.S. Capitol.

Prominent Filipino-American lawyer George Conway together with members of his new organization - the Society for the Rule of Law Institute - weighed in on the case.

“This seems to be where the consensus was," the conservative lawyer said, "where they're going to say that in the case of the president, states cannot make the determination that the president or the presidential candidate is disqualified."

He added: "It's going to be, I think, a very, very narrow decision, but it could command seven, eight or nine votes perhaps.”

Conway says the justices – some of which are Trump appointees, would likely find a way to rule for the former president without highlighting his role in the Capitol riots.

“I think they want to avoid that question," he added, "because they do know deep down in the case of insurrection, they didn't want to be the ones to drop the hammer on you."

Colorado’s supreme court ruled in December that Trump should be removed from the state’s ballot when he incited a mob to overturn the certification of now-President Joe Biden's 2020 victory.

Fil-Am Luige del Puerto of the news outlet Colorado Politics points out that Trump lost in the state in the 2016 and 2020 elections.

He said the Colorado ruling, if upheld by the U.S. Supreme Court, would reverberate in battleground states.

“Those closely divided states that are crucial to winning the electoral votes, I think this would matter to them more,” he said. “This is just a way for those who oppose Trump to try and get effectively more states to then go and kick him off of their ballots.”

During the oral arguments, several justices voiced concerns on how a state’s action could impact a presidential election nationwide.

Said Chief Justice John Roberts: “If Colorado's position is upheld, surely there will be disqualification proceedings on the other side and some of those will succeed."

"It will come down to just a handful of states that are going to decide the presidential election," Roberts continued. "That's a pretty daunting consequence.”

While some expect the justices to rule in favor of Trump, the court has yet to give a timeframe on the release of its decision.
