MANILA — Organizations of composers and record producers on Wednesday joined the growing call for the renewal of ABS-CBN's franchise, ahead of the House panel vote that will determine the network's fate.

FILSCAP, or the Filipino Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers Inc., said ABS-CBN is a "long-time licensee and a major partner in the music industry that promotes and popularizes the artistic creations of Filipino songwriters."

ABS-CBN, FILSCAP noted, has been securing broadcast licenses for the use of musical compositions in accordance with copyright law.

"We trust in the wisdom of the distinguished members of Congress as they act in the interest of our nation in deciding on the renewal of the franchise of one of our industry's most valued partners," it said.

PARI, or the Philippine Association of the Record Industry Inc., similarly urged Congress to allow ABS-CBN's continued broadcast operation, saying it "supports the granting of a new franchise to ABS-CBN."

Since May, ABS-CBN's free-television and radio broadcast have been forced off air, putting at risk some 11,000 jobs amid an already dire situation due to the coronavirus crisis.

Further broadcast platforms of ABS-CBN were ordered shut in June — TVPlus and SKYdirect.
