MANILA -- At its "Creation of Beauty" event in Makati, Huawei Philippines officials showed its MateBook X Pro and MateBook 14, both of which will be formally launched soon. 

The MateBook X Pro is described as having features that is better than MacBook laptops. 

It has a metallic body and an ultralight Skylight design, but it only weighs less than a kilo -- 980 grams to be precise. It is powered by Intel Core Ultra 9 processor and has flexible OLED real color display. It also uses AI or artificial intelligence technology and other high-end features. 

“Typically it’s 360 grams lighter than MacBook Air. It’s lighter than air. Also compared to iPad 11, it’s also lighter than iPad 11… Compared to other slim laptops, it’s much stronger. Light, but not slight. It’s also stronger than Pro, performance stronger than MacBook Pro,” said Gary Wong of Huawei.

Wong said they will announce the price of the MateBook X Pro in the coming months, but initial data shows it will be around P129,000. That may still change as the company finalizes the pricing. 

Huawei also unveiled other more affordable options like the MateBook 14 laptop and the highly-anticipated MatePad 11.5”S. The latter is already available for pre-order and is priced P29,999 with freebies worth P19,896 if pre-ordered until July 4, 2024. 

The said tablet is described as PC-like or can work as a personal computer. It is also said to be good for the eyes because of its ‘papermatte’ display, which means it has advanced non-glare features, low visual fatigue, reflection-free, low blue light, and flicker-free. 

“We pushed for PC-like products. We wanted in our tablet to work like a PC… Number one is about productivity, number two is about creativity, and number three is about education,” said Jose Ramos of Huawei Consumer Business Group. 

Huawei also showcased its own Go Paint app, which has advanced features making it easier to do artworks.

Visual artist June Digan also demonstrated at the event how she can does her works using the new app. 

The tablet is now available for pre-order, while the laptops will soon be launched. Huawei officials believed its new lineup of products will be useful to Filipinos students as well as those already working.
