Globe appoints new deputy CEO

MANILA -- Globe Telecom has appointed Carl Raymund Cruz as its deputy chief executive officer (CEO), replacing Ernest Cu starting January 2025.

In a regulatory filing, Globe said Cu will continue to be the chairman of GCash holding firm Mynt, data center company STT GDC Philippines, and venture builders 917Ventures and Kickstart Ventures Inc.

In a statement, Cu said he will remain focused on the company's corporate strategy, guiding it towards its broader growth agenda.

Cruz, meanwhile, will oversee the day-to-day operations, execute of key strategic priorities, and further strengthen the company's leadership team.

Cruz is the CEO and managing director of AirTel Nigeria, one of the largest airtel operators in Africa. Before this, he was managing director of Unilever West Africa and Unilever Nigeria.

Cruz is a seasoned veteran at the fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) company, having worked for it across the Philippine, India, Thailand, and Sri Lanka markets.

Recently, Globe also appointed 39-year-old Juan Carlo Puno as its Chief Financial Officer, Treasurer, and Chief Risk Officer, succeeding Rizza Maniego-Eala.
