The Miss Universe Organization recently announced several changes in criteria for those who can join the pageant. Among the rule changes were the removal of the age limit and mothers now being allowed to compete as well.

Catriona shared with ABS-CBN News that this is something she looks forward to seeing in the future years of Miss Universe. She expressed her support for all the women who want to represent the country and the advocacy they have.

“I think it’s wonderful. I’ve always loved the different stories that come to the platform of pageantry. Whether it be a trans community advocate or now in showing that age is just a number,” she shared.

The former Miss Universe winner added that women are being limited just because of their biological clock.

“Especially as a woman, I feel like age is usually used to kind of limit us and our potential… So just to see a woman who is unapologetically going after her dream, and it may not look like something we’ve seen before but why not? She’s enjoying herself, she’s representing her community and I think those are all great things,” she added.

Despite understanding the new situation of the Miss Universe pageant, Catriona empathized with the fans who don't like the new rules.

“So, as the rules are starting to get lifted, I can understand why it angered some people or kind of rubbed some the wrong way. But for me kasi, I’m a fan of pageantry but I also love what pageantry stands for,” she said.

“It gave me a platform to talk about my cause. Which was why I wanted to go there. It gives other women a platform to talk about what they want or showcase something, or to represent someone or a community or something about themselves,” she added.

For the beauty queen, pageantry is not just all glitz and glam but also for the advocacy that a contestant is pushing forward––something that the Miss Universe Organization is leaning towards.

“So I see pageantry as a lens of that. Not just beautiful women who are fit, who are walking on stage––that’s not what pageantry is for me that’s why all of these I guess forward movement in terms of what the organization is doing is something that I support––something I’m happy for,” she ended.
