GLENDALE, California — As November 5 draws closer, Filipino-American state assembly candidate Jessica Caloza is hitting the pavements, reminding people they don’t need to wait until election day to vote.

Most California voters would have their mail in ballots by now, and vote centers are already open throughout the region.

“Every single day is election day. That’s what I like to tell our voters and people in the community, that they have the incredible opportunity to make sure that their vote counts,” Caloza said.

California’s 52nd assembly district includes parts of North Eastern Los Angeles and a portion of Glendale.

If she wins on Tuesday, Caloza would be the first Filipina woman, and third Filipino overall, to be elected to the state assembly. She would also be the first Filipino elected to represent the City of Glendale, at any government level.

"That’s really important because we have a robust Filipino community in LA county and more broadly in northeast LA county in Glendale. And I’m really wanting to bring the community’s voice to Sacramento to make sure our issues impacting the communities of colors,” she said.

For these final "Get Out the Vote" events, Caloza is also meeting up with other candidates.

On this day of canvassing through Glendale, she was joined by US congressional candidate Laura Friedman, who currently represents the state’s 44th Assembly district.

Friedman is running for the 30th congressional district which stretches through the San Fernando Valley, and includes Glendale and Burbank and goes into Los Angeles.

The Democratic incumbent Adam Schiff is currently running for the U.S. Senate.

“Our government doesn’t work well if you have politicians who aren’t talking to each other. We’re all servicing the same community so my relationship with Jessica is very very strong and I know that we’ll be able to work really well for this district,” said Friedman.
