MANILA — The Department of Foreign Affairs on Friday raised the alert levels in both Israel and Iran to Alert Level 3 due to fighting between the two countries.

Under Alert Level 3, or the Voluntary Repatriation Phase, overseas Filipinos are enjoined to return to the country.

The raising of alert level is effective immediately.

Travel to both Israel and Iran by Filipinos is also highly discouraged due to the ongoing conflict and closure of air space and seaports.

The DFA likewise said the alert levels are periodically reviewed based on the situation on ground.

“The Department hopes that parties will cease hostilities soon,” it also said.

Israel and Iran exchanged fire again on Friday, eight days into the war between the longtime enemies.

The number of Filipinos injured in the ongoing attacks between Israel and Iran has risen to eight, with one in critical condition, Philippine Ambassador to Israel Aileen Mendiola said Friday.

Seven of the injured Filipinos have been discharged, while the remaining Filipino in critical condition is still being treated.

The attacks began June 13, when Israel targeted Iran’s nuclear facilities. The Iranian government immediately mounted a counterstrike, saying Israel’s attack is a declaration of war.
