Photo from NCAA Philippines.MANILA — Arellano University’s hopes of entering the NCAA Season 100 women’s volleyball Final 4 got a major boost on Wednesday.

This, after the Lady Chiefs swept Emilio Aguinaldo College, 25-19, 25-15, 25-23, in their Round 2 faceoff at the FilOil EcoOil Centre in San Juan City.

Arellano U improved to 11-6 after this victory, while the also-ran EAC fell to 4-12. In addition, as a result of this game, Lyceum of the Philippines University is now also eliminated from Final 4 contention.

Laika Tudlasan headed the Lady Generals in the win with 13 points, while Lei Padillon and Sam Tiratira scored nine and eight, respectively.

On the other hand, Cara Dayanan and Alex Razonable scored 12 points each for the Lady Generals, but their 29 errors to the Lady Chiefs’ 11 eventually resulted in their demise.

In the men’s division, the Chiefs also handed the Generals the same fate.

Arellano kept their place at No.3 after its sweep of EAC, 25-18, 25-8, 25-14, to close out Wednesday’s games.

AC Guinto led the Chiefs’ balanced attack with 12 points on top of five receptions and four digs, Carl Berdal finished with nine markers and six receptions, Jake Pangilinan contributed eight, while Jiwen Sinuto and Anfernee Curamen had seven and six, respectively as they improved to 12-5.

On the other hand, the Generals, who fell to 5-11, were headed by Joshua Olivo and Frelwin Taculong who each scored nine.

Aside from being outscored, 40 to 27, in the scoring department, their 23 errors also served as a major factor in their loss.
