MANILA — The country's golden boy can expect a grand welcome when he returns from the Paris Olympics.

In a statement on Monday, Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna said the city is gearing up for a hero's parade to honor two-time Olympic gold medalist Carlos Yulo.

"We will announce the date and route of the parade once we have coordinated with Caloy’s team. Tentatively, we are thinking of starting the parade where it all began — on Leveriza Street in Malate, where Caloy grew up," Lacuna said.

The parade will pass through areas near Malacañang, the University Belt, and will conclude at Manila City Hall, she said.

At the Manila City Hall, the local government will honor Yulo with cash incentives, honors, and recognition.

"This is our way of paying tribute to Caloy’s greatness," Lacuna said.

The Manila mayor is in talks with concerned bodies to ensure the city's youth will be able to see the Olympian during the parade.

"To ensure that more of our youth can witness the parade, I will have Manila schools’ students, in coordination with DepEd and the private schools, come and witness Caloy Yulo’s procession through the streets of Manila," Lacuna said.

"This way, what they only see on TV, they can experience up close. Caloy’s victory will serve as an inspiration for them to discover more Carlos Yulos among the youth of Manila and the entire Philippines."

The 24-year-old decorated gymnast is also an Outstanding Manilan Awardee.

Yulo grew up in his family home in Malate, Manila, the same place where he began tumbling in a nearby playground.

He was later brought by his grandfather Rodrigo Frisco to Rizal Memorial Stadium to train with the Gymnastics Association of the Philippines.

Yulo made history for the Philippines after bagging two gold medals at the Paris Olympics in the floor exercise and vault event in men's artistic gymnastics.
