After opening their campaign with a close heartbreaker against Brazil, the Nationals were drubbed by Hungary, 97-60, during their early Wednesday morning faceoff in Rwanda.

Afril Bernardino was one of the few bright spots as he had 11 points, six rebounds, and four steals, while closely following her was Ella Fajardo who finished with 10 markers, two boards, and one dime.

Already trailing by nine after the first 10 minutes of gameplay, the Filipina dribblers absorbed a 28-to-10 second-quarter beating from their opponents. This resulted in Gilas eventually facing a 39-point disadvantage later in the game despite a slightly better showing in the second half.

Also vital in Hungary’s win was their height advantage which was clearly seen in their rebounding dominance, 57 to Gilas’ 24.
