MANILA — Philippine men's national football team captain Neil Etheridge is set to embark on a new journey.

This, after Thai League 1 squad Buriram United announced on social media that they have signed the 34-year-old goalkeeper. 

"Buriram United have reached an agreement to sign Neil Atheridge, the goalkeeper of the Philippines national team, who has had the chance to play on the English Premier League stage Cardiff City, has come to join the forces as another ASEAN player of the team," they wrote. 

This is the first time that Etheridge will be playing professionally outside Europe, and he said that he is raring to join the defending Thai League champions. 

"Delighted to have signed for Buriram United!" he said in an Instagram post. "An honour to be here at this fantastic powerhouse!  I can't wait to get started on this new journey and adventure! Thank you for all the support to make this happen. Let's do this," he continued. 

Meanwhile, he also showed his appreciation for Birmingham City wherein he played for four seasons. 

"I just wanted to say thank you to Birmingham City Football Club and you Blue Noses who would come out rain or shine all across the country to support the team," he penned in a separate post on his account.

"A time in my career with many new experiences and challenges along the way. I met some great people who I now class as friends, they will not be forgotten, getting me through tough and difficult times."

"I would like to thank my family and loved ones for your constant and unconditional support. Finally, I wish the club all the best in the future for this new journey they are about to embark on," he ended. 

Etheridge previously played for Fulham, Walsall, and Cardiff City, among other clubs. He has won 81 caps for the Philippines since making his debut in 2008.
