MANILA – The Premier Volleyball League, now tasked to select the roster of the Philippine women's national volleyball team, will coordinate with Brazilian Jorge Edson de Brito to conclude the final lineup, PVL President Ricky Palou told reporters on Sunday during the 2024 All-Filipino Conference semifinal round.

De Brito, who is the FIVB-assigned coach for the country, will mentor the said national team and will have a strong position on which players to choose for the final lineup.

Palou said they have a pool of 20 players—still unnamed—and they're waiting for De Brito to look at it.

"We have a pool of 20 [players]. It's not yet final because we're waiting for coach [Jorge Edson Souza] De Brito to give us his inputs into the pool. But basically we came up with a list of 20 players while waiting for De Brito to look at it and see if he wants to make any changes or if he's satisfied with it," he said.

Palou also underscored that the members of the 20-player list were recommended by several coaches.

"We'll sit down with De Brito, going to the recommendation of... Actually this pool was recommended by several coaches, they submitted it, they looked at it and we submitted it to De Brito for his comments. We're waiting for his reply. We should be getting that in the next few days," Palou said.

The PVL President is also "honored" for the new task assigned to them.

"We are honored that the Philippine National Volleyball Federation gave us the responsibility of handling the national team for women's [volleyball]. They gave us the coaching staff, and we're now discussing with the coaching staff who will compose the national team for the women's," Palou said.

The PVL's mandate starts with the Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC) Challenge Cup for Women that the country is hosting later this month.
