Proclamation of 'Magic 12' senators set on Saturday

(UPDATED) Commission on Elections (Comelec) chairman George Garcia  announced on Friday that the proclamation of 12-winning senators is all set on Saturday, May 17. 

Garcia said the National Board of Canvassers (NBOC) will send formal invitations to the 12 winning senators Friday afternoon.

 He said the proclamation ceremony will start at 3:00 p.m., and will be held at the Tent City of the Manila Hotel.

 "Hinihintay na lang namin yung formal recommendation ng supervisory committee pero we were informed, they will recommend to proclaim winning senatorial candidates base sa ranking,” said Garcia.

 The NBOC released the National Certificate of Canvass ( NCOC) containing rankings of the "magic 12" winning-senators with the corresponding votes they received.

According to Garcia, the 12th winning senators will will be given 5 minutes for their speech.

All winning senators will have the the traditional "photo ops" on stage, said Garcia. 

"Ang unang tatawagin po ay yung number 12…Isa-isa muna silang tinatawag, babasahin yung certificate of proclamation, hanggang sa dumako tayo sa number 1. Usually itataas yan ng commissioner o ng chairman na in-charge dun sa particular candidate na yun, sa bandang huli, lahat nung 12 will have to be there sa stage,” he added.

 The poll chief said each winning candidate would be allowed have 10 to 15 companions during the ceremony.

 Meanwhile, the proclamation for winning party-list groups is scheduled on Monday, May 19.

 HISTORIC MIDTERM POLLS

 Garcia also announced what he called a historic conduct of the midterm elections.

 He said 82.20 % of more than 69-million registered voters nationwide cast their votes. 

This translates to 57, 350, 968 registered voters.

 "Talaga naman pong historic, talaga naman pong nag-uumapaw ang kaligayahan ng Comelec sa pinakita ng mga kababayan natin. This is the victory of the people, this is not only the victory on the part of Comelec…ang ganitong klaseng turnout ng 82.2 (percent) ay tagumpay ng sambayanan,” Garcia said.

 Garcia believes youth voters contributed to this historic voter turnount.
