MANILA (UPDATE) -- The country’s representatives for Dota 2 are assured of at least a silver medal in the Southeast Asian Games after a 2-0 rout of Vietnam in the last phase of the playoffs, Sunday morning.

After a long first match, the Philippine squad quickly disposed of the Vietnamese team in the upper bracket finals to secure a grand finals berth.

The Philippines looked in control on the first match, even nearing the end of the objectives.

But a few mistakes proved costly for the Philippines, and as a result prolonged the match, Sibol player Marvin “Boomy” Rushton told reporters.

“Game 1 may major mistakes ‘yung Pinas, namamatay ‘yung core namin. Paisa-isa sa wrong timing kasi… yung kukunin na lang sana namin ‘yung Aegis, tas nagkamali, kaya ayun,” Rushton said of the first game, which lasted over 70 minutes.

As a result, Vietnam will be relegated to the lower bracket finals, where they will have to face another squad if they want to keep their chances alive.

The Philippines may face Vietnam again in the finals should Vietnam win in the lower bracket finals. Vietnam is already assured of at least a bronze.
