TOKYO—Naoya Inoue suffered a pair of fractures around his right eye in Thursday's punishing World Boxing Super Series bantamweight final against Nonito Donaire Jr., the Japanese fighter revealed Saturday.

Inoue won the world championship bout by unanimous decision despite being cut badly above the eye by his Filipino opponent in the second round. Further examination on Friday revealed the fractures.

Inoue, who added the WBA super bantamweight championship to the IBF crown, did not give a timeline for his recovery but he will apparently not need surgery.

"I felt something was wrong when I began seeing double," Inoue said. "I've been told it will not affect my next fight. For the time being, I'm going to take it easy."

Inoue's next fight is scheduled for next spring. His plan now is to resume training after getting the results of a follow-up examination a month from now.

After hearing Inoue's condition, Donaire reached out to him through Facetime and wished his speedy recovery.

"After face timing with @naoyainoue_410 , I heard about his injuries. Relieved he doesn't need surgery and of course, sending healing prayers on the way!" Donaire said in his Facebook post.
