Continuous and heavy rains in Cebu City triggered another landslide in the mountain barangay of Sirao, Monday morning, July 15.

Rain and mud overflowed onto the roads and damaged a huge part of a farmland in the barangay.

Roads were also rendered impassable, forcing authorities to conduct immediate clearing operation.

This affected the nearby flower gardens in the barangay, which is a tourist attraction in the city.

“Wa ta’y hunong pangita paagi aron mapadali ang pag-ayo sa dalan (We are not stopping to find ways to expedite the clearing of the road),” said Nino Rey Ardiente, head of the Barangay Disaster Risk Reduction and Management.

The barangay was able to borrow heavy equipment from the adjacent village and assisted by the Cebu City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office.

Some volunteers also helped clear the road.

Authorities did not report any injury from the incident apart from infrastructure damage.

The road was cleared of debris late Monday.

The city is now monitoring other mountain barangays for possible landslides due to the persistent rains.
