“I think, I remember, my first beauty feature with Metro, it’s very memorable with me. That’s just really small. They just quoted me for a certain product that I always have in my kit. Then from then [on], tuluy-tuloy na siya. They referred me,” he imparted, letting us into how he further gained fame and a reputable status in the region. On a greater scale, Muriel radiated his sunshine as a global mentor, too. He made his entry to an Australian educational institution, where he initially served as Makeup Mentor, and then progressed to Makeup Director.

Growing up, the makeup artists he admired were Rickey Reyes, Fanny Serrano, and James Cooper. Later on, Muriel is thankful to have learned from the likes of Lala Flores and Denise Go. He said, “These people, I’ve met them when they were really sobrang famous na at I was in my backpack lang na nandu’n ’yung makeup. Now, I work with them side by side at wala talaga, mabait talaga sila. They treat you [well]. They don’t gatekeep; they share.”

“You know, that moment na when they reached out to you, [you’re] like, ‘why?’ Parang ganu’n,” he answered, when asked what he feels about his fairy glam master duties. To Muriel, it was a major, grand opportunity—a door opening that he is thanking ABS-CBN and Star Magic for.

“I don’t have much credentials compared to my colleagues din. But then again, as they say, the reason why they reached out to me is they’ve seen maybe something in me that I don’t see in myself,” Muriel said, his eyes sparkling. “So I feel like these bigger people than me—they’ve been in the industry for so long, especially the Star Magic people who reached out—they’ve seen something in me. They believed in me. And of course, the answer is always yes.”

Muriel’s makeup approach for the Star Magical Prom 2024 was magical, effortless, and youthful. And as a tip for teens glamming up for similar occasions, he shared, “My recommendation is, ‘The preparation should happen not just on the day or the day before.’ You have to take care of your skin and body prior to the huge event—any huge event. So you get a lot of sleep. You drink a lot of water. You remove all the negativity around you ’cause it reflects and radiates in your skin, in your eyes. If you don’t have enough sleep, no contact lenses, no makeup can correct that tiredness that illuminates in your eyes. So kailangan, you are well-rested. You just think of the positive things that ‘I’m going to rock that runway,’ ‘I’m going to look effortless, fabulous.’ And lastly, you should look forward to it as if it’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, though marami naman silang events for sure. But you always look forward na it’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.”
