Vatican City – Pope Francis, who has been hospitalized since February 14 with pneumonia, remains in stable condition with no repeat of the respiratory crises that occurred earlier, according to the Vatican’s latest update on Tuesday.

“Today, the clinical conditions of the Holy Father remained stable. He did not present episodes of respiratory failure or bronchospasm,” the Holy See said in a statement, while noting that the 88-year-old Pontiff’s prognosis remains “reserved.”

The statement echoes details from the Vatican’s earlier press release, which confirmed that Pope Francis has not shown signs of respiratory insufficiency or bronchospasm. The update also reassured that he remains alert, without fever, and is actively cooperating with his medical treatments.

As part of his ongoing care, doctors transitioned the Pope to high-flow oxygen therapy on Tuesday, with plans to resume non-invasive mechanical ventilation overnight as a precautionary measure. This treatment is expected to continue until Wednesday morning.

Despite his hospitalization, the Pope has maintained his schedule as much as possible. On Sunday, he delivered the Angelus prayer via video link from his hospital bed at the Gemelli Hospital in Rome, expressing gratitude for the well-wishes he has received from around the world.

While his medical team remains cautious about his condition, Vatican officials and close aides have emphasized that he remains in good spirits and engaged with his duties.

Pope Francis, known for his resilience in the face of health challenges, has faced several medical issues in recent years, including previous bouts of respiratory infections and colon surgery in 2021. His current hospitalization has raised concerns about his ability to continue his demanding role, but Vatican sources stress that he remains determined to fulfill his papal responsibilities.

The Vatican is expected to provide further updates in the coming days as the Pontiff continues his recovery.
