RIZAL— The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) dismantled a clandestine laboratory used for manufacturing suspected methamphetamine, commonly known as “shabu,” during a search warrant operation in a residential area within a subdivision in Antipolo, Rizal, on Friday night, May 9.

According to PDEA spokesman Joseph Frederick Calulut, the operation successfully led to the seizure of several chemicals identified as key ingredients in shabu production, along with several pieces of drug paraphernalia used in the manufacturing process.

Authorities also found suspected ephedrine, a primary component in the illegal drug.

While the exact value of the seized items is yet to be determined, as chemical analysis is still underway in the PDEA laboratory, Calulut confirmed that the agency has identified the people involved.

They were not present during the implementation of the search warrant but will face corresponding charges.

“We have identified the personalities involved. Although wala sila during the implementation of the search, so they will be facing charges. We are going to file cases against these individuals,” Atty. Calulut said.

Barangay Kagawad Samuel Mejia of Muntindilaw, Antipolo expressed surprise at the discovery of the clandestine lab.

“Wala hong idea kung sino nakatira dito. Wala po akong idea kung sila may-ari… Kasi kami ay pumapasok dito (sa village) pag may tawag sa amin. Mahigpit po ang mga guwardya. Hindi ko po alam bakit may mga nakapasok dito na ganito,” he said.

(We have no idea who lives here and if they own this place. We only come here when they call us. Security here is tight. I don't know how these got in here)

Mejia was unsure if the barangay had records of the residents in the raided house.

Initial investigations found that the suspects who will be charged are Filipino nationals, Calulut said.

He also hinted at potential connections to other ongoing PDEA operations but refrained from divulging specific details to avoid compromising those investigations.

Authorities believe around four people may be linked to the illegal operation. They may only be caretakers, not owners, of the property.
