A man held his son hostage along C-6 Road in Taytay, Rizal, on Saturday.

Rizal Police Provincial Director, Police Colonel Felipe Maraggun, identified the suspect as a construction worker in his mid-30s, while the child was approximately 3 years old.

According to Maraggun, the suspect was allegedly involved in a rape incident involving his stepdaughter the day before, which may have triggered his behavior.

"Nung umuwi siya sa bahay nila at naalarma siguro siya dahil may pumupuntang barangay dun dahil nga sa nagreport ang kaniyang wife. Tinakas niya 'yung kaniyang biological son at hinostage niya dun sa mismong highway ng C-6 sa Lupang Arenda," Maraggun said.

He added that the man was armed with a sharp object, which he pointed at his child.

"Medyo delikado kasi nakatutok sa leeg ng kaniyang anak," he said.

Police were alerted to the situation around 7 p.m. as a crowd gathered, causing traffic in the area.

The suspect surrendered peacefully after negotiations with the police.

Authorities are conducting a thorough investigation to determine the charges to be filed against the suspect. Meanwhile, the child was taken to a hospital for a physical exam.
