MANILA — Lawyer Catalino Generillo has asked the Supreme Court to dismiss the motion of the Office of the Solicitor General for an extension to comment on his petition on the impeachment of Vice President Sara Duterte.

Generillo filed his petition for mandamus on February 14, 2025 asking the Supreme Court to order the Senate to immediately act on the impeachment complaint filed by the House of Representatives.

The OSG, which represents the Senate, said in its motion for extension that while the SC issued a resolution dated February 18, 2025 requiring the Senate to file a comment, the office only received a copy of the order on April 29, 2025.

The OSG further stated that it has until May 9, 2025 to file a comment.

But due to voluminous work on other issues, the OSG told the court that it is forced to ask for an extension until May 24, 2025.

“This motion is not intended to trifle with the generosity of this Honorable Court but solely for the reason above-mentioned,” the OSG said.

Generillo however told the Supreme Court in an opposition filed last May 9 that the motion for extension of the OSG should be denied.

He noted that the Supreme Court released a statement on the day it ordered the Senate to respond which “spread like wildfire” after being reported by the media.

“Most importantly, it is humbly prayed that the instant petition for mandamus be resolved at the soonest possible time,” Generillo said.
