List of applicants for replacement of retiring SC justice released

MANILA — The Judicial and Bar Council (JBC) has released the list of applicants for the position to be vacated by Supreme Court Associate Justice Mario Lopez.

Lopez is set to compulsorily retire on June 4, 2025.

Those vying for the post include Court of Appeals Presiding Justice Fernanda Lampas Peralta, University of the Philippines College of Law Dean Darlene Marie Berberabe, and Supreme Court Administrator Raul Villanueva, among others.

In its Facebook post, the JBC encouraged the public to participate in its search for the new Supreme Court justice by providing information on the candidates through its website.

“We welcome your thoughts, concerns, or comments about the applicants for Associate Justice of the Supreme Court,” the JBC said.

The applicants will be interviewed from May 14 to 21, 2025.
