MANILA — A 68-year-old doctor was found dead inside a sport utility vehicle parked along Mindanao Avenue Extension in Barangay Pasong Putik, Quezon City last weekend, police said Wednesday, adding that dashcam footage helped them arrest a suspect.

“May nagsumbong na concerned citizen dun sa naka-park na vehicle… napansin kasi ng security guard na matagal nang naka-park doon yung sasakyan,” QCPD spokesperson P/Capt Febie Madrid said.

He said the victim suffered multiple stab wounds.

A review of the SUV’s dashcam footage later revealed that on Friday night, a man boarded the doctor’s vehicle. Roughly 30 minutes later, the footage captured what appeared to be the man attacking the driver, repeatedly stabbing him.

The dashcam helped authorities identify the suspect. QCPD’s Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit (CIDU) launched a manhunt and arrested the suspect on Tuesday.

“Siguro nung nagkabunuan sila sa loob… kaya nasagi [ang dashcam], doon na-identify. Nag-conduct agad manhunt operation ang Quezon City Police District,” said Madrid.

Investigators suspect robbery as the motive behind the killing. Items belonging to the victim, including his ATM card and personal belongings, were recovered from the suspect.

“Nakuha sa kanya in his possession itong mga gamit ng biktima, particularly ang kanyang ATM, nail cutter na positively identified ng kanyang driver,” said Madrid.

The suspect denied any involvement in the crime, claiming he was at home at the time of the incident.

He was charged with robbery with homicide and detained at Camp Karingal.
