MANILA — The Philippines is eyeing to repatriate 50 Filipinos who fell victim to scam hubs in Myanmar, the Department of Foreign Affairs said Monday.

“There are still Filipinos to be rescued from Myanmar. Hindi ito yung mga lindol victims pero ito yung mga na-scam,” DFA Undersecretary Eduardo De Vega told reporters.

Last week, the Philippine government rescued some 200 Filipino victims of human trafficking, who were forced to participate in online scamming activities in Myanmar.

The DFA did not say when the fresh batch of repatriates are expected to arrive in the Manila, but noted that air travel to Myanmar has been paralyzed after a magnitude 7.7 quake damaged the southeast Asian country’s main gateway.

“Unang-una po, nakikiusap po tayo sa mga Pilipino na nagnanais na magtrabaho sa ibang bansa: Dumaan lang po sana sa tamang proseso. Huwag po silang, kumbaga, makikipag-transact nang hindi alam po ng gobyerno. Kaya nga po tayo may POEA para po sila ay mabigyan ng seguridad na ang kanilang pupuntahan, sila po ay safe,” Palace Press Office Claire Castro said.
