MANILA — The House prosecution team’s preparations for the impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte despite speculation that it might not push through at all, San Juan City Rep. Ysabel Zamora said.

Zamora, a member of the panel, admitted being “shocked” after hearing about draft resolutions, including one by Sen. Ronald "Bato" Dela Rosa, to dismiss the impeachment case altogether.

"The mere drafting of this document shows that they were willing to violate the Constitution, the supreme law of the land," she said.

“We are not affected by what's going on in the Senate, the draft resolution, the comments that we hear from the senators,” Zamora said.

She said House prosecutors are confident that the impeachment trial will happen and they are following their constitutional duty. She said she hopes the Senate will do the same.

"They have no other duty or mandate but to hold trial," she added.

House Assistant Majority Leader Zia Alonto Adiong of Lanao del Sur said he also believes the Senate cannot dismiss the impeachment case without starting the trial.

"It would open up the floodgates of Constitutional concerns, that would definitely not be beneficial to the country," he said.

While House prosecutors believe the case cannot be dismissed without trial, the two said the House withdrawing it is not an option either.

“Remember, the impeachment complaint was supported by… more than 200 congressmen. Wala po kaming balak i-withdraw ‘yan,” Zamora said.

All members of the House prosecution panel are expected to be present at the Senate during the presentation of the Articles of Impeachment on June 11.

Batangas Rep. Gerville Luistro has been assigned to read the articles during the Senate plenary session.

This would trigger the convening of the impeachment court.
