MANILA  — Manila's incumbent Mayor Honey Lacuna, former Mayor Isko Moreno, and Tutok to Win party-list Rep. Sam Verzosa started roaming around the city on Friday, March 28, for their campaign.

Lacuna took the streets of Sampaloc, her own neighborhood, to launch her reelection campaign. In a Facebook post, the incumbent Manila mayor described the similarity of her current door-to-door campaign to the city situation during pandemic.

She and her running mate Yul Servo Nieto also attended a mass at the Our Lady of Fatima Church in Bacood, Santa Mesa.

Moreno, Lacuna's former ally, held a city-wide motorcade with vice-mayoral candidate Chi Atienza and his son Joaquin Domagoso who is also running for councilor of Manila's 1st District.

“Nagre-request talaga ‘yung taumbayan na umikot kami sa kanilang kalsada sa Maynila. So this is the day, the first day, I am very excited also and grateful sa aming supporters. Nagulat ako ‘yung haba ng motorcade, nandun na sa kabilang kanto,” he shared in an ambush interview.

Saying he would not engage in mudslinging or negative tactics, Moreno said he had emphasized to members of his electoral slate the importance of maintaining a respectful tone throughout the campaign.

Versoza initiated a motorcade in Manila streets as well. He said he is prioritizing communicating his plans and platform promises to residents.

As local campaigns in various areas start on Friday, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) and the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) already began dismantling materials that violated poll rules.
