ABS-CBN News/File MANILA — As police arrested Former President Rodrigo Duterte on Tuesday, Senator Risa Hontiveros said the day that families of drug-war victims have been waiting for has come.

The arrest happened shortly after he arrived in the Philippines from Hong Kong, as cops acted on a warrant issued by the International Criminal Court, who is investigating the former chief of state for crimes against humanity over the "Tokhang" drug war.

Malacañang has also confirmed ICC's warrant which was received by INTERPOL Manila earlier this morning.

In a Facebook post, Hontiveros said she hopes Duterte will heed his own words as she claimed the ex-president supposedly stressed he would face the case of ICC.

The senator also stated she hopes the Marcos administration will "honor its" word and ensure that "justice will run its full course".

Hontiveros said Duterte's arrest should be followed by a crackdown on other officials involved in the drug war.

"The thousands of Filipinos killed during tokhang were not murdered by one man alone.
