MANILA — South Korean singer and actor Seo In-guk will serve as the Philippines Celebrity Tourism Ambassador for Korea after he signed a memorandum of understanding with the Department of Tourism (DOT) on Friday.

According to DOT, they aim to "enhance the Philippines' appeal as a travel destination for South Korean market" by collaborating with Seo who is best known for his roles in the series "Reply 1997" (2012), "The Master's Sun" (2013) and "Hello Monster" (2015).

Further boosting his stardom, Seo In-guk will also pair with Blackpink's Jisoo in the upcoming romcom "Boyfriend on Demand".

The DOT said Seo In-guk's travel in major Philippine tourist spots would be part of future promotional activities.

Tourism Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco said Seo's designation as tourism ambassador "strengthens the cultural and tourism exchanges between the Philippines and Korea." 

"South Korean has long been the top source market for the Philippines, and the Philippines for a thriving Korean community even as Filipinos love many things from Korea," she said.

"We anticipate that this partnership with Mr. Seo In-guk will further the love of South Koreans for the Philippines and allow us to share the very many wonders of our beautiful nation," Frasco added.

Seo In-guk is expected to "showcase not just the [Philippines] breathtaking landscapes but also the hospitality" of Filipinos through digital content engagement and immersive experiences, the DOT said.

"Mr. Seo In-guk will be instrumental in promoting Philippines as a must-visit destination for Koreans," Frasco said.
