MANILA — Devotees flocked to the Minor Basilica and National Shrine of Jesus the Nazarene, commonly known as Quiapo Church in Manila, for the blessing of replicas of the Nazarene image and its banners on Thursday.

To avoid heavy traffic and ensure their participation, some arrived as early as Wednesday evening, January 1, spending the entire night near the church to prepare for the event.

To maintain order, members of the Hijos del Nazareno, a group of male devotees tasked with assisting during Nazarene-related activities, provided guidance to participants.

In his homily, he emphasized the importance of speaking the truth as a way to follow Jesus the Nazarene, enabling society to prosper and live harmoniously.

“If we’re going to follow the way of Jesus Nazareno, if we’re going to follow his image through the streets of Quiapo one week from today, we need to follow the truth in the other 364 days of the year. Because by loving the truth, we love Jesus. Because Jesus is the truth. That means we shouldn't tell lies,” Brown said.

Several activities are scheduled for the Feast of the Black Nazarene: Barangay visitations are ongoing from January 1 to 6, with First Friday Masses on January 3 and a special Mass for volunteers on January 6.
