MANILA (UPDATE) — Jailed televangelist Apollo Quiboloy on Friday secured an extension of his medical furlough due to an infection from his dental implants.
During the pre-trial proceedings for the pastor’s qualified human trafficking case, the Pasig Regional Trial Court 159 allowed Quiboloy to be brought back to the Philippine Heart Center from Saturday, Nov. 23 to Wednesday, Nov. 27.
“We requested for an extension of medical furlough because there are matters that have to be addressed too with respect to his dental operation, which affected his jaw. Mayroong infection po kasi yung kaniyang dental implants,” Quiboloy’s lawyer Israelito Torreon said earlier in the day.

"Mataas na diskusyon pero na-approved naman. There will be a medical furlough for pastor Quiboloy. As to the details, I cannot disclose because I think you know the nature of proceedings in this case,” he added after the proceedings.
Torreon declined to provide specific details regarding Quiboloy's health condition. He said that all medical procedures, including those related to his dental concerns, will take place at the said hospital.
The prosecution opposed the request for his medical furlough.
“We believe that this is a circumvention of the court’s order denying the hospital arrest. Pero the court granted the motion, we respect the order of the court,” State Prosecutor Atty. Olivia Torevillas said.
The Kingdom of Jesus Christ (KOJC) founder was brought to the hospital earlier this month due to his irregular heartbeat.
“It was attended to, but there are further tests to be conducted in order to ensure his good health,” Torreon said.

EX-DILG CHIEF EXPLAINS KOJC RAID
Meanwhile, former Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Benhur Abalos filed before the Department of Justice (DOJ) Friday his counter-affidavits to the charges filed by former President Rodrigo Duterte in connection with the serving of the arrest warrant by the police against Quiboloy.

In an interview after the filing of his counter-affidavit, Abalos justified the actions done by the Philippine National Police (PNP) within the KOJC compound during the service of the warrant.
“Isipin na lang natin, kung hindi namin ginawa ang dapat naming gawin hanggang ngayon si Pastor Quiboloy ay hindi pa rin naaresto,” Abalos said.
Last September, the former President, as KOJC administrator, filed charges of malicious mischief, violation of domicile, grave misconduct, grave abuse of authority and conduct unbecoming an officer against Abalos.
The charges also involve PNP chief General Rommel Marbil and other police officials.
In the complaint against Abalos, Duterte alleged that Abalos is primarily accountable for the operations against Quiboloy as the then DILG secretary.
The complaint alleged that “Oplan Parokya” had the authorization and order from Abalos and that he participated in the planning and execution of the operation against Quiboloy.

Abalos said in the counter-affidavits that he was not involved in the planning up to the execution phase of the operation.
He also noted that Duterte failed to establish with certainty the existence and validity of the purported “Oplan Parokya.”
Abalos also stressed that the doctrine of command responsibility does not apply to his case.
“If complainant’s theory is upheld, every superior officer will be exposed to criminal liability for crimes he did not commit,” Abalos said.
Abalos, who is running for the Senate in the 2025 elections, also expressed concern that the complaints against him are political in nature.
Abalos also said he has just received another set of complaints in relation to the KOJC operation filed before the Office of the Ombudsman but he said he still has to read the documents.
