DAVAO CITY — The Davao Crocodile Park and Zoo in Davao City announced on Thursday that its main attraction and flagship animal, saltwater crocodile Pangil, passed away due to cancer on Saturday, January 25.

At 18 feet long, Pangil was known as the largest saltwater crocodile in captivity in the country, following the death of Lolong in 2013.

Estimated to be 85 years, Pangil was rescued from Bunawan, Agusan del Sur, the same location where Lolong was discovered.

"Pangil peacefully passed away due to complications from metastatic squamous cell carcinoma. Despite extensive medical care and surgical intervention, the cancer had spread, ultimately leading to multi-systemic organ failure," the crocodile park said in a statement.
