MANILA — When applying for a job, crafting a great resume and curriculum vitae is very important. According to a job market platform Bossjob, this is why they developed an AI-powered tool to help job seekers.

"It usually asks you to define your job and then your experiences when you complete your profile, and then it creates the CV from there with the ATS format," said Bossjob Marketing Director Ibon Toledo.

ATS stands for applicant tracking system, which is a standard developed by Harvard University. Toledo said ATS is used by most employers right now to filter CVs.

"So the easiest way to create an ATS format resume right now is to search for the format that was released by Harvard. But right now it's already incorporated with our AI resume, so you can have our AI formulate your CV through that format already within the platform," Toledo added.

However, she added that the AI also does not remove the human factor when processing applications.

"But then again, the employers are also free to search. For. For example, they can type a keyword during our employer platform, they can actually search for the keywords that are currently looking for the job," he said.

Toledo said there is a problem of mismatch between the jobs being offered by the industry and the education offered in universities.

"So it's currently shifting--before we always tell that there is a demand, always for call centers, (business process outsourcing), but right now, when you look at the data that we currently have as well, with Bossjob, there is actually a bigger demand in retail, wholesale, (food and beverage), agriculture," Toledo said.

"But we don't have a lot of schools focusing on that, because there's still stuck on the mentality that it's always the BPOs that's currently hiring," she noted.

Toledo said Bossjob is forging partnerships with universities to help them get their graduates some jobs.

"What we currently do is that we offer them webinars for upskilling programs. We do mock interviews for the school when they feel like their students need it. We do resume creation training for them," she said.

The executive also said they are partnering with micro, small, and medium enterprises and even non-government organizations to help these industries absorb more employees.

Toledo also said Bossjob is expanding to other areas outside Metro Manila to help more companies hire more workers.
