MANILA — The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) on Monday reported that it mounted 128 job fairs across the country in the first 4 months of 2025 as it pushes to have more employed Filipinos.

DOLE has created 128 job fairs from January to April, with 244,000 vacancies from over 2,000 employers, said Asst. Sec. Patrick Patriwirawan Jr., DOLE’s Officer in Charge for its Bureau of Local Employment, noting that over 3,000 applicants were hired on the spot.

“Nakipagugnayan po tayo sa development partner kung saan nag-update ng mga programa in collaboration with ILO (International Labor Organization),” he told state television PTV.

“Mayroon tayong programa sa employment forecasting kung saan kumukuha tayo ng expert advice kung ano yung mga modelong ginagamit ng ibang bansa para maforecast yung employment at skills sa iba’t ibang sektor,” he said.

Among the most in-demand jobs this year are vacancies in IT-BPN, transport and logistics, hotel and restaurant, manufacturing, as well as wholesale and retail, he said.

The DOLE is also working to provide more employment opportunities for fresh graduates and young Filipinos through its youth employability program, government internship program and special program for the employment of students, Patriwirawan said.

“Itong tatlong programa pong ito ay naglalayon na mapabilis yung pagkakaroon ng skills at competencies na angkop sa pangangailangan ng industriya,” he said.

“Tinutulungan din ng mga programang ito na mapabilis yung paghahanap nila ng trabaho at maabsorb sa respective partner agencies natin,” he said.

The DOLE waives fees for job requirements for first-time workers, the assistant secretary said.

The unemployment rate in the Philippines fell to 3.8 percent in February, from 4.3 percent the month before, the Philippine Statistics Authority said earlier this month, nothing that there were 51.09 million Filipinos in the labor force in February.

Meanwhile, the underemployment rate also dipped to 10.1 percent from 13.3 percent in January, according to data from the PSA.
