MANILA — Motorists who have citation or violation tickets should settle them immediately to avoid delays in the renewal of their driver’s licenses, a Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) official said.

According to MMDA Strike Force officer-in-charge Gabriel Go, motorists should be responsible and settle their tickets as soon as possible.

“It will accumulate, once na kayo ay mag-re-renew na ng lisensiya at hindi n’yo po na-settle yung inyong violation it will reflect so hindi po kayo makakapag-renew. It is your obligation to settle your violation para hindi po magpatong-patong,” Go told ABS-CBN News.

Go clarified that traffic violations will not be deleted from the databases of the MMDA and the Land Transportation Office even if the fines are paid, but that unpaid fines mean licenses cannot be renewed.

“The more violations you accumulate, magkakaroon po ng demerit ‘yan. And alam naman po natin ang lisensiya ngayon meron na tayong validity for five years and for 10 years. Doon po nagbe-base yun depending on your violations,” according to Go.

He said that violations can accumulate, which could lead to shorter license validities or even the revocation of the privilege to drive.

This reminder from the MMDA comes after almost a hundred motorists were apprehended on Tuesday in Pasay, Parañaque and in Quezon City for different traffic violations such as illegal parking.

The MMDA also impounded 26 vehicles in clearing operations in the three cities.
