The House of Representatives has not authorized the use of special plates bearing the number “8” under the 19th Congress, House Secretary General Reginald Velasco said a day after an SUV with the said plate number was seen using the EDSA busway.

“These plates hold no official sanction from the House and are not to be considered legitimate,” Velasco stressed in a statement.

He said the lower chamber of Congress has an agreement with the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority to apprehend drivers using “8” plates and confiscate the plate.

“The unauthorized and illegal use of special plates is a matter that should not be tolerated, as it poses a threat to public safety and undermines the integrity of the vehicle registration system. We urge all individuals to comply with the law and refrain from engaging in such activities,” Velasco added.

“We expect all Members to uphold the highest standards of integrity and adherence to the law,” he noted.
