MANILA — Isko Moreno Domagoso on Tuesday formalized his bid to retake the Manila mayoralty from his former running-mate, Mayor Honey Lacuna.

Moreno filed for certificate of candidacy at around 9 a.m., surrounded by bands and a mascot.

Chi Atienza, former Manila Mayor Lito Atienza's daughter, is running for vice mayor alongside Domagoso.

Moreno said his comeback bid was fueled by public clamor and the supposed lack of benefitsunder Lacuna's administration. He added that he wanted to correct claims that Manila is as one of the most dangerous cities in the world.

Moreno said he had discussed his plans "politely" with Lacuna, who is seeking reelection. The former actor told the media that he loves the Lacuna family, but his priorities were the needs of the Manileños.

In a text message, Lacuna denied the supposed lack of benefits for the city's senior citizens.

She said there is an official list of allowances released to them by barangay officials.

Lacuna was Moreno's running-mate when he made his mayoralty debut in 2019.

He unsuccessfully ran for president in 2022, after which he briefly returned to TV hosting.

Over the weekend, Tutok To Win Party-list representative and businessman  Sam Verzosaalso formalized his bid to run for mayor of Manila City in the 2025 midterm elections.
