On the eve of International Human Rights Day (Dec. 10), human rights group Karapatan-Metro Manila offered free hugs and kisses to the public at the solidarity fasting center in Mendiola, Manila on Friday.

The move was a call for President Rodrigo Duterte to show "love and support" to their plea for the release of all 400 political prisoners in the country.

The group also urged Duterte to bring home all the political prisoners this Christmas.

The activity is part of the week-long fasting protest of political prisoners and their relatives and supporters which started last December 3. It will be lifted in the time for the major Human Rights Day protest on Saturday from Liwasang Bonifacio to Mendiola.

Karapatan is also asking Duterte to reconsider the appointment of Eduardo Año as the new military chief of staff.

The group claimed Año has past records of human rights violations and is a serious threat to the government's peace efforts.
