MANILA - Senator Christopher Lawrence "Bong" Go on Tuesday filed his first 10 bills, including those seeking death penalty for plunderers, creating a department for overseas Filipino workers, and institutionalizing "Malasakit Centers."

Go's bills are a fulfillment of his campaign promises and are in line with the priorities of President Rodrigo Duterte, whom he served for years as special assistant.

He said he would push for the restoration of death penalty for “heinous crimes involving illegal drugs and plunder related cases.”

“Parte ito ng patuloy na kampanya ni Pangulong Duterte na labanan ang ilegal na droga at korupsyon sa gobyerno,” Go told reporters.

“Exasperated na si Pangulong Duterte sa nangyayari sa ating bansa. Gusto ko siyang tulungan, kahit sa anong paraaan para matigil ito.”

(The President is exasperated with what is happening to the country. I want to help him in whatever way I can just to stop it.)

Go said he was open to lowering the threshold amount for plunder, currently set at P50 million.

His pet measure is the institutionalization of "Malasakit Centers," a one-stop shop for indigents needing medical and financial assistance from the government. Malasakit is Filipino for compassion.

Duterte has credited Go for conceptualizing the center. At present, there are 34 Malasakit Centers around the country.

Go is also pushing for the creation of a department that will cater solely to the needs of overseas Filipino workers. He filed a resolution seeking the creation of a committee on OFWs in the Senate.

He is also pushing for the creation of a department on disaster resilience, increase of salaries of government workers, amendment of the Solo Parents’ Welfare Act. He also wants to address the country’s housing gap through the National Housing Development Production and Financing Act.

Go is also seeking the enactment of the Fire Protection Modernization Act of 2019.

He also filed a bill postponing the barangay elections to October 2022 from May 2020.
