Magnitude 4.1 quake rocks Leyte

MANILA—A magnitude 4.1 earthquake jolted Leyte in the central Philippines on Tuesday afternoon, the country's seismology bureau said, the second tremor to hit the province in as many days.

A magnitude 5.5 temblor rattled Leyte early Monday, triggering aftershocks.

Tuesday's quake happened at 2:51 p.m., seven kilometers northwest of the province. It was tectonic in origin and had a depth of one kilometer, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS).

Intensity 4, which may feel like when a heavy truck passes by, was felt in Naval, Biliran, while Intensity 2, which may cause hanging objects to swing slightly, was felt in the following areas: Tanauan, Barugo, Palo, Jaro, Tolosa, Dagami, San Miguel, Dulag, and Babatngon towns in Leyte, as well as in Tacloban City.

The following instrumental intensities were also reported:

Intensity IV - Ormoc City; Naval, Biliran
Intensity III - Palo, Leyte; Borongan City

The tremor was not expected to cause damage and aftershocks.
