MANILA -- The countdown has begun for the Manila staging of the iconic musical "Miss Saigon" in Manila this weekend.

Some of the Filipino-blooded cast members of the show faced the local media last Thursday, March 21, and shared their excitement for the month-long run.

Fil-Australian Abigail Adriano, who will play the iconic role of Kim, said she has looked up to Lea Salonga all her life. The 19-year old theater actress considers "Miss Saigon" as a timeless piece of art.

“I fell in love with 'Miss Saigon' when I was about 13 years old and my ate and I would listen to ‘Movie in my mind’, we would sing the songs. Lea Salonga was such an icon for many of us in theater. Thanks to 'Miss Saigon,' Philippines is on the map!”

“Being home in Manila, it’s such an emotional homecoming for me. But at the same time, it’s been 35 years, look at the hype and the love for the show. Everyone has a personal connection to the story, despite how universal it is.”

You might have seen him at "The X Factor UK" and in season 10 of "The Voice Australia" -- yes, Seann Miley Moore, another Fil-Aussie talent, is also part of the cast and will play the role of The Engineer. During the media showcase, Moore gave a snippet of his performance of "The American Dream," together with Vegas-style dancers and a convertible car on stage.

“What I’m bringing in the show is The Engineer is now The Engine-queer. Which is fantastic. Cameron McKintosh said over the 30 years of this production no one has ever done it like you, and what you’re doing is a complete revelation.”

Moore added this is his way of showing young LGBT members that if he can do it, so can they.

Also part of the 16 performers with Filipino roots are Filipino-Kiwi actor Laurence Mossman who will play the role of Thuy, homegrown talent Kiara Dario who will give life to the fierceness of Gigi, and the four-year-old daughter of Guji Lorenzana, Cassidy, who will play the child Tam.

French record-producer Claude-Michel Schonberg was a special guest during the media call. For those who aren’t familiar, Schonberg together with lyricist Alain Boublil composed "Miss Saigon."

“Without Filipinos, there wouldn’t be ‘Miss Saigon,’" Schonberg said, adding that the Philippines is an island full of treasure and "a soup of talent."

"Miss Saigon" in Manila will open on March 23, at The Theater in Solaire in Pasay City.
