MANILA - Letting bygones be bygones, reigning Miss Universe Pia Wurtzbach has posted a throwback photo of herself with Steve Harvey and asked him to return as the host of the international pageant despite his infamous blunder.

Back in December, Harvey mistakenly named Miss Colombia Ariadna Gutierrez as the new Miss Universe, when the title was supposed to go to Wurtzbach. The American host has since asked for forgiveness from both beauty queens.

"[Throwback] to the night that changed my life. [Steve Harvey], let's do it again and change someone else's life," wrote Wurtzbach as the caption to the photo of her and Harvey taken during the pageant's coronation night in Las Vegas.

Wurtzbach's post came amid reports that President Rodrigo Duterte is against Harvey hosting the next Miss Universe pageant, which will be held in the Philippines on January 30.

"Definitely he (Harvey) is again going to host the Miss Universe. When I told the President about that, medyo negative agad ang sabi niya. 'Hindi puwede,' that was what he said. And he said, 'I'm going to talk to the Miss Universe na dapat hindi siya.' That’s my problem," Tourism Secretary Wanda Teo told journalists.

Teo, however, believes that the remaining four months before the pageant starts is enough time to convince President Duterte to accept Harvey as the host.

"I've known him (Duterte) for many years as our mayor with a big heart for forgiveness to well-meaning people like Mr. Harvey, who did not hesitate to correct his mistake, thus changing the life of our very own Bb. Pilipinas-Universe Pia Wurtzbach," Teo said.

"Pia herself has a magnanimous heart to appreciate the way Mr. Harvey stepped up to redeem himself. I expect the same sense of forgiveness and class act among Filipinos."

In an earlier interview with ABS-CBN News, Tourism Undersecretary Kat de Castro said Harvey told the Miss Universe organization that he wanted to personally apologize to Filipinos after making a hash of Wurtzbach's crowning moment.
