Patty Ang doesn’t just design for design’s sake. Statement-making, yet timeless; effortless, yet functional—her designs are the epitome of modern womenswear. Founder of both Atelier Patty Ang and Patton (which she co-founds with husband Migs Almeda), Patty has become one of the most influential names in Philippine fashion in recent years. With her impressive clientele that spans across the globe, the designer has dressed elegant, sophisticated women in equally elegant, sophisticated pieces—characterized by her signature flowy, classic silhouettes typically detailed with ostrich feathers and a minimalist color palette. But, for her upcoming show at BYS Fashion Week (BYSFW), these classic Patty Ang elements are given an extra flair.

Patty’s designs are “more than just fashion statements”, proving that women can look good without having to sacrifice practicality and comfort. After all, part of the designer’s ethos has been to create a sense of ease for women to be able to express themselves through style—and much of this has been emphasized by Patty in her upcoming collection. For her BYSFW presentation, the designer draws inspiration from her recent travels, channeling the observations that have captivated her through these experiences. Hinting at a more vibrant color palette and an added “touch of drama”, Patty’s upcoming collection leaves much to the imagination until its release on October 10.

Metro.Style caught up with Patty Ang for an exclusive interview on her upcoming collection at BYSFW.

Patty’s upcoming collection is a play of pops of color, feathers, and beadwork.

Metro.Style: Take us back to the beginning of the collection. What is it about and what inspired it?

Patty: “I find inspiration when I travel. I usually just stay at home or at the office, but this year I traveled a lot, which allowed me to spend more time outdoors, and I was constantly captivated by the changing colors of the sky. I’ve never created a colorful collection before, as I usually work with a limited color palette. But this time, I wanted to incorporate more pastels and vibrant colors.”

MS: Your upcoming collection is described as having “signature feminine details and classic silhouettes”. What would you say is the signature Patty Ang style?

Patty: “A Patty Ang signature style is statement-making, yet timeless. I would say it’s modern, effortless pieces that are clean and minimalist. I focus on classic, flattering silhouettes—like easy, relaxed-fitting tops, jumpsuits, dresses and occasionally coordinates—that are sultry yet sophisticated, and at the same time, I add an extra flair such as feathers, beadwork, or a pop of color. While most of my designs lean toward classic cuts, they are more than just fashion statements; I try to make them as functional and practical as possible with guaranteed quality.”

MS: How would you describe the evolution of your design aesthetic in this collection compared to your previous works?

Patty: “For this collection, I would say there are pieces that are a bit more daring than what I usually design, but I still balanced them with classic and simple but elegant pieces. I didn’t want to create something that people wouldn’t feel comfortable wearing or pulling off. I’d describe it as a blend of glam and easy, effortless-wear.

On a personal note, I think my style has evolved a lot. My body has changed over the years, and that has given me a better understanding of what works for different body types and what doesn’t, which helps me connect with my clients more effectively. Instead of focusing on trends, I tend to stick to timeless styles, but I also listen to what my clients want and suggest pieces that will make them feel both confident and comfortable.”

MS: Walk us through the details of the collection. What fabrics or materials did you use to bring your vision to life?

Patty: “I still opted for clean, easy, and flowy fabrics—nothing too structured, and mostly fluid pieces that perfectly suit this collection. You’ll see throughout the collection, I experimented with colored beads as accents with handmade and intricate beadwork along with my signature ostrich feather detailing.”

The upcoming collection is “powerful, sultry, effortless yet comfortable”

MS: How do you see your collection resonating with the modern woman? How should one feel wearing Patty Ang?

Patty: “I would say women now are more confident and self-expressive when it comes to fashion, and thiscollection definitely resonates with that—powerful, sultry, effortless yet comfortable. The collection is amix of classic, timeless pieces with a touch of drama, allowing today’s woman to express her confidence and personality effortlessly. Just like the pieces in this collection, it’s meant to enhance each one’s beautyand self-expression.”

MS: You’ve branched out to other brands under your belt like Patton. Atelier Patty Ang has always been there, too. What do you wish to accomplish with these?

Patty: “Our goal is always to provide our clients with high-quality, premium clothing that is easy to wear. We understand our clients' wants and needs and offer pieces that they can wear for any occasion. One of our visions and goals is to put a Filipino brand on a global stage.”

Patty adds an extra flair to her classic minimalist style for her BYSFW show

MS: What message do you wish for this collection to make in the context of today’s Philippine fashion landscape?

Patty: “I think Filipinos are generally very passionate about fashion, so I hope that somehow this collection inspires others to embrace their true selves, express themselves, and enjoy the experience of dressing up for themselves.”

MS: Lastly, how has BYS helped create platforms for Filipino designers today?

Patty: “There aren’t many platforms or opportunities nowadays for talented designers to showcase their new and fresh work. I think it’s great that this event highlights Filipino talent. It’s always inspiring to see talented fashion designers, whether they are young or have been in the industry for a long time, come together to create an event for everyone to enjoy. It’s nice to be a part of something meaningful.”
