Netflix has released the official trailer for the highly anticipated seventh season of Black Mirror, offering a glimpse into six new episodes of the thought-provoking sci-fi series.

One of the season's most intriguing highlights is a sequel to the "USS Callister" episode from Season 4, which followed a video game programmer who creates a simulated reality where he serves as the captain of a spaceship, turning his co-workers into unwilling participants in his sinister sci-fi fantasy.

Season 7 boasts an impressive ensemble cast, including Awkwafina, Milanka Brooks, Peter Capaldi, Emma Corrin, Patsy Ferran, and Lewis Gribben, among others.

Fans online were quick to react to the trailer.

"I'm literally tearing up. I’m so happy. The Black Mirror series is one of my all time favorite shows and I’m so thrilled it is coming back," one fan commented.

"Looks like they are expanding on the universe and bringing back tech from other seasons. Excited to see it!" another fan wrote. 

In an interview with Tudum, series creator Charlie Brooker said that fans can "expect a mix of genres and styles" in this new season. 

"We’ve got six episodes this time, and two of them are basically feature-length. Some of them are deeply unpleasant, some are quite funny, and some are emotional," he remarked.

Charlie described that the new season is "back to basics in many ways."

"They’re all sci-fi stories — there’s definitely some horrifying things that occur, but maybe not in an overt horror-movie way. There’s definitely some disturbing content in it," he relayed.

This season also marks the first time Black Mirror will feature a sequel. 

"Fans of the show will recognize the cast of a certain spaceship from one of our episodes reappearing," he said. 

"We’ve done a sequel for the first time in Black Mirror history. Normally, I kill off all the characters at the end of an episode, [but] I kept some of ’em alive. I’m growing as a human," he quipped.

Black Mirror season 7 will be released on Netflix on April 10.
