PH documentary 'And So It Begins' misses Oscars 2025 shortlist

The Philippines will have to wait another year for a chance to win the Best International Feature Film trophy at the 97th Academy Awards. 

This after the country's official entry, "And So It Begins," failed to secure a spot in the Oscars 2025 shortlist.

Only 15 films were selected from entries from 85 countries and regions. These include: 

- Brazil, "I'm Still Here"

- Canada, "Universal Language"

- Czech Republic, "Waves"

- Denmark, "The Girl with the Needle"

- France, "Emilia Pérez"

- Germany, "The Seed of the Sacred Fig"

- Iceland, "Touch"

- Ireland, "Kneecap"

- Italy, "Vermiglio"

- Latvia, "Flow"

- Norway, "Armand"

- Palestine, "From Ground Zero"

- Senegal, "Dahomey"

- Thailand, "How to Make Millions Before Grandma Dies"

- United Kingdom, "Santosh"

Directed by Ramona Diaz, "And So It Begins" is a documentary on the people's campaign for the presidency of former Vice President Leni Robredo.

It premiered at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year, and went on to screen in Los Angeles. 

The movie was released in Philippine cinemas last August.
