Maureen Montagne has gained a following among pageant fans after winning the Miss Globe crown in 2021. Because of this, many have been encouraging her to try competing in Miss Universe. 

Rumors of her joining this year's Miss Universe Philippines national pageant have been circulating online, but Montagne finally set the record straight in an Instagram Stories post over the weekend.

"Hello everyone, I would like to thank you all for your support within the pageantry community. I would like to formally announce that I will not be competing in MUPH. I have international modeling contracts I cannot break," she explained.

Montagne went on to show her support for this year's candidates. "May the best woman win. Wishing everyone love and light!"

Montagne scored a historic back-to-back victory for the Philippines with her Miss Globe win in 2021. A week prior, her Binibining Pilipinas batchmate Cindy Obenita was crowned Miss Intercontinental 2021. 

The candidates of this year's MUPH pageant are being slowly revealed, with the competition expected to include both veterans and fresh faces.
